Donate a Bike, Change a Life

Bike Buddies is the Columbia Gorge’s “free bikes for kids” non-profit bike shop.

What we offer

We give free bikes to caregivers and children who need them.

For single adults, we only work with Bridges to Change, Next Door, and other non-profits.

Free Bikes

We often get specialty mountain, city, and road bikes for kids and adults. If your child needs a bigger size or you want to try road or mountain biking, contact us or see our bikes for sale.

Parts for free or sale

We have a bike-parts library — most items are free or donation-based.

Why We Pedal

We believe that every child who wants a bike, should own one. Since 2015, we have donated 100s of bikes to families in need.

This is a pedal assist e-bike from 2015. It has 3100 miles on the odometer and is in very good condition. The mid-drive motor is 48volts and 520 watts. It has both front and rear suspension- a Rock shock and an air pressure rear shock. It has TRP hydraulic disc brakes that are cable actuated. Brake pads and discs have very little wear. The rear hub is a Nuvinci 360 with its variable speed gear system. Tires are the durable Schwalbe Marathon 365 puncture resistant all weather tires and have very little wear. The pedal assist levels go from 1 to 4 with an assist up to 20mph. The original charger and all the manuals are included with the bike. The bike with its battery weighs 70 lbs. The size is medium-large with a 28” unweighted standover height. An extension raises the handlebar height for an upright pedaling position

This bike was generously donated to Bike Buddies, who provide free bikes to kids and families in need in the Columbia Gorge area. Proceeds from the sales of adult bikes go to the nonprofit to buy parts for the kids bikes which are repaired and refurbished by volunteer mechanics.

Minimart bike!
$40.00

This is a Ross coaster brake bike from the 1970s. It’s the bike you use when you ride to yoga class or the minimart for beer and cigarettes. No need to fire up the Ford or hoof it when this relic is just what the doctor ordered. Free of klunky deraileurs and squealing handbrakes this no-nonsense coaster brake singlespeed bike is as honest as the day is long and is just the thing to ferry you about town. Not much need to lock it at your destination; just leave your hat on the handlebars like you would do in a theatre to indicate that “this seat is taken”.

The coaster brake is the only brake on the bike and has been freshly packed with Shimano high temperature coaster brake grease by volunteer mechanics at BikeBuddies in Hood River. Size is medium-small but pretty much anybody who can comfortably operate the coaster brake is able to ride it. The tires on it appear to be in good condition and are 26x1 3/8 (BSD 590)- not a size common in bike shops but widely available online.

Flyer E-bike
$1,100.00

We are proud to offer for sale a Flyer L885 longtail electric cargo bike. The bike has an integrated front basket and bag, rear rack with a convertible fabric basket that folds down to allow two kids to ride on the padded rear deck, fenders, and powered lights. Brakes are cable discs, battery is integrated into the downtube, and (after these photos) we changed out the stock flat bars for sweeps that make the bike much more comfortable. Total miles are under 900, and everything works as it should.

This is a solid kid hauler, grocery getter, and errand doer. Doesn't feel huge when ridden solo, but can handle 2 mid-sized kids without a problem.

Mileage - 886
